Golf courses
Of all the places in the world (genuinely) that you might
choose to go for a true golfing feast, East Lothian will be
very hard to beat. We are spoiled with not the just the volume
but also very much the quality of our golf courses here -
particularly the links courses on this coastline (also known
as the Golf Coast), many of which are rightly world famous.
The great news is that, despite their prestige, they are largely
accessible to the passing tourist and you don't have to re-mortgage
to play them. Where's the catch? There isn't one - you just
need to get yourself to Oldhamstocks Cottage, kick back into
relaxed golfing mode, and enjoy a fabulous week playing a
few championship courses within 30 minutes' drive. You can
enjoy the experience while it lasts, then spend the rest of
your life telling your friends about the 28 foot putt you
sank at Muirfield, the monster drive you banged out at North
Berwick or the cheeky chip and run that saved your par at
Archerfield. If the weather is right (and even more so if
it's not) the East Lothian golf tour will live long in your
holiday memories.
We have 19 local courses catering for golfers of all standards
and tastes. Some courses you will recognise - Lufness, Gullane,
Dunbar, Royal Musselburgh and The Open Championship course
at Muirfield. There are traditional links and classic inland
golf courses, courses steeped in history, and modern, challenging
courses. Pretty much all of them are coupled with friendly
clubhouses and affordable green fees.
There's clearly no point in us trying to tell you everything
about all these fabulous courses on this website. We have
however set out right here a series of Golf
Links to help you map out your perfect week of sport.
Head down, breathe deep, smell the sea air, ignore the bumble
bee and follow through like your name's really Tiger!
See Golf Links for all the golf
details you'll need to get your trip planned.
Golf East Lothian Passport
A new golf product, launched in 2004 by popular demand, the
East Lothian 'golf passport' offers a range of discounts to
some of the best golf courses in East Lothian. With a superb
choice of links and parkland courses to choose from, including
Championship venues such as Gullane, Longniddry and Craigielaw,
a trip to play the best of Scottish golf has never been easier.
12 East Lothian courses participate in the scheme, offering
a 15% reduction in high season and 30% off in low season.
This could represent savings of more than £80 during a 5-day
golf trip. The pass, which costs £7.50, will entitle you to
purchase one round or day ticket, at any of the participating
clubs, over 5 consecutive weekdays (see www.golfeastlothian.com).
